Why Open Houses Still Matter — Even When No One Walks In
It’s easy to judge an open house by how many people walk through the door. But attendance is only one part of the value.
Here are a few reasons open houses still matter:
1. They create more online exposure
When an open house is added to a listing, buyers may see it in their search results, saved searches, or open house notifications.
Even if they don’t attend, they may click on the listing again, save it, or share it.
2. They remind buyers your home is available
Buyers look at a lot of homes online. An open house gives your listing another opportunity to get back in front of someone who may have already seen it.
Sometimes that extra reminder is what gets a buyer to take another look.
3. They give us another reason to market the home
Open houses create fresh content for social media, email, and other marketing.
People may see the post, save the event, share the listing, or send it to someone they know.
4. Signs can create even more exposure
If your neighborhood allows open house signs, they can catch the attention of people driving through the area who may not have seen the home online.
5. Your neighbors are probably looking
They may not come inside, but neighbors are often curious enough to look the home up online.
And that can be a good thing! They may know a friend, family member, or coworker who would love to live nearby.
6. More eyes means more opportunities
The goal is to keep putting your home in front of as many potential buyers as possible.
An open house is another chance to create attention around the listing — even if the person who eventually buys the home never attends one.
A quiet open house doesn’t necessarily mean it was unsuccessful. The extra exposure still matters.
